Walk4Water features a closed walking course appropriate for people of all ages and fitness levels. Participants will completed four loops around Wheeler Park to simulate the experience of a three-mile trek to collect water.
You’ll pick up a 3-gallon bucket as you arrive at the park. After opening ceremonies, you’ll walk the first two laps without water in your bucket before filling up with water at the half-way point. As you walk, you’ll experience a small glimpse into the daily life of the millions worldwide who are forced to make this walk every day to collect their water.
A full bucket of water weighs around 25 lbs. Please fill your bucket with an amount that feels appropriate to you. Anyone unable to carry a bucket of water is welcome to walk with an empty bucket and/or cheer on participants from anywhere along the course.
Wheeler Park is located on the east side of Western Ave between I-40 and the Oklahoma River at:
Please enter the park from the traffic light at Western Ave immediately south of I-40. Access from S. Walker Ave. may not be available the morning of the event.
PLEASE NOTE: Wheeler Park is NOT in the same place as the Wheeler District Ferris Wheel. Wheeler Park is actually located on the east side of Western a quarter mile north of the Wheeler District Ferris Wheel.
Wheeler Park has ample parking available in multiple lots. Parking is first come, first served. Please follow the direction of our parking team as you enter the park. Handicap parking is available immediately adjacent to the walk festivities. Please have your handicap parking permit properly displayed, and you will be directed to the handicap parking area.
The walk to collect water happens every day all over the world in every kind of weather. Unless there is severe weather and/or lightning in the area, Walk4Water will take place rain or shine. Please visit Water4 on Facebook for real-time updates in the event of possible severe weather.
Strollers are permitted at Walk4Water. The majority of the walking path is on pavement, however, a small portion of the course passes through a field. Please make sure your stroller is suitable for short distance off-roading.
The Taco Nation and Taste of Soul Southern Chicken & Waffles food trucks and our friends from Perk Place Cafe will be onsite serving up delicious food, pastries, and hot coffee for that cool October morning. Food vendors will be open from 8:30 a.m. to noon and accept cash and all major credit cards.
Sponsors and their guests are encouraged to visit the sponsor hospitality tent the morning of the event for complimentary refreshments.
In addition to the walk, Walk4Water will include free face painting, a photo booth, a coloring activity, and other activities for children. Attendees young and old can also get up close with Water4 drilling equipment along with several of our water systems.
Walk4Water is a free event, but all participants are encouraged to fundraise to help provide access to safe water. Every dollar you raise makes a lasting difference in the lives of people around the world by providing access to safe water to those who need it most. In addition to the impact you’ll make in the lives of those who receive safe water, everyone who met the fundraising milestones below by September 10 is also eligible to receive the following limited edition Water4 gear:
• Raise $75 and receive a commemorative Walk4Water t-shirt
