The Development Officer (DO) (focused on Major Gifts) will identify & qualify new donors in addition to managing an existing portfolio. The DO will create individual goals for each person in his or her portfolio based on the donor’s history of giving and the organization’s knowledge of that donor’s potential. They will create a plan that will serve as a foundational communication and marketing roadmap for each person in the portfolio. The DO will faithfully and on a timely basis execute these plans so individuals in the portfolio are retained and upgraded. They will work with the SDD and fellow Development Officer as well as with the Programs department as needed to secure appropriate project information to create proposals for major gift donors. The Development Officer will report regularly to the SDD and the Development & Marketing department on portfolio activity and performance. The DO will perform other major donor activities as may be required.

|Working with the Senior Director of Development and Development Officer on overall individual giving strategy, annual budgets, and execution of the strategy to achieve revenue goals.||15%|
|Working with the Development Services Coordinator to maintain financial partner records through donor management software including donor correspondence in response to gifts.||5%|
|Working collaboratively with and in support of board, staff, volunteers, other development associates while participating in all aspects of the gift cycle.||5%|
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years fundraising experience preferred.
- Commitment to donor-centered fundraising principles.
- Must be a highly energetic, self-starting professional with a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts.
- Ability to understand and articulate the needs and interests of both donors and Water4 program staff in order to develop sustainable long-term relationships.
- Attention to detail.
- Must play well with others and be highly collaborative across departments.
- Enthusiastic about making the world better for the 2.1 billion people who currently lack access to safe water.
- Finds motivation and joy doing meaningful work in a fast-paced environment.
- Successful experience developing donor relationships and cultivation and solicitation strategies.
- Willing to travel up to 50% dependent on donor location.
