Position Summary

The Director of Development is responsible for supporting the development strategies and implementing the organization’s fundraising efforts to achieve revenue goals. They will implement activities to secure donors and contributions in support of the organization’s goals and funding needs, with clear strategic guidance from the Sr. Director of Development. The Director of Development will be responsible for providing leadership to the Development team, in collaboration with the Senior Director of Development.

The Director of Development will play a critical role in cultivating relationships with new and existing donors by meeting prospective donors and supporters regularly to establish effective communication and expand support. They will grow a major gifts program, including identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major donors. They will build the planned giving program, manage the annual fund program, and manage capital campaigns, with efforts focused not only on individuals, but also churches, small businesses, schools, nonprofits, foundations and trusts. In collaboration with the Marketing team, they will create communications collateral to support fundraising efforts, including messaging for monthly email updates, social media posts, year-end letters, and annual impact reports.

Manage, retain and increase Water4’s major gift portfolio, including:

  • Donor relationship building, donor cultivation, gift solicitation, campaign development and stewardship
  • Collaborate with leadership and other staff on building relationships with major philanthropic partners
  • Manage Water4’s fundraising database and tracking systems
  • Maintain gift recognition program

Maintain an active major donor portfolio of 70+ donors

Manage creation of publications and other materials to support fundraising activities

Oversee and collaborate with Development staff

Serve as an ambassador of Water4, speaking and representing the organization at strategic events as opportunities arise

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of development experience required, with internationally-focused non-profit experience preferred
  • Proven track record of success in fundraising, including developing mass campaign and individual solicitation strategies
  • Professional experience managing projects and leading teams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Salesforce and Mailchimp
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Analytical thinking and ability to analyze data
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally on occasion
