Position Description:

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Church Engagement Officer is responsible for developing and implementing Water4’s church engagement strategy. The person selected for this position will be an organized, self-initiator who is goal driven & can communicate effectively to bring the right church leaders to the table. This position is responsible for developing a pipeline of church partners by building trust and legitimacy with the right prospective leaders, the right churches, and the right influencers. Based at Water4’s headquarters in Oklahoma City, this position includes up to 40% domestic & international travel. The Church Engagement Officer will focus on cultivating new church partnerships while retaining existing church relationships with the goal of major gifts for all Water4 programs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Fosters and develops long-term relationships with church & ministry partners to generate a sustainable tradition of support for the mission of Water4
  • Develops and implements Water4’s church engagement strategy in collaboration with development, marketing, and program team members
  • Personally interacts with large church pastors and other key decision-makers to foster effective relationships and growth in increased giving potential
  • Reports to donor churches on the use of funds through stewardship reports, maintaining strong communication related to project follow-up and a personalized affirmation program for prior gifts and involvement
  • Operates within the approved budget, maintains accurate database of accounts, documents and provides regular reporting on activities and objectives
  • Represents Water4 and participates as a speaker at events where communication of Water4’s ministry is required
  • Works collaboratively with and in support of board, staff, and volunteers while participating in all aspects of the gift cycle
  • Ensures Water4 operates with the highest level of integrity and is in compliance with generally accepted fundraising and development standards and guidelines

Position Requirements:

  • Strong commitment to and belief in the mission of Water4
  • Commitment to donor-centered fundraising principles as outlined in the Water4 Philosophy of Development
  • Must be a highly energetic, self-starting professional with a track record of building relationships
  • Three to five years professional fundraising or ministry experience
  • Ability to understand and articulate the impact and unique business model of Water4 to churches in order to develop long-term relationships
  • Must play well with others and be highly collaborative across departments
  • Enthusiastic about making the world better for the 2.1 billion people who currently lack access to safe water
  • Finds motivation and joy doing meaningful work in a fast-paced environment
  • Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Willing to travel
