Development & Communications Manager

Position Summary:

The Development & Communications Manager will create, implement, and evaluate communication strategies that lead to sound donor cultivation, prospecting, segmenting, acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship. Responsible for Water4’s mass fundraising appeals, this role will curate content for all types of communication and media to align with current development messaging and organizational objectives. The Development & Communications Manager will partner across all departments to gather relevant information and work with the Creative Director to manage communications, printed materials, and digital assets.

Time Allocation of Responsibilities:

Create, implement, and evaluate the organization’s mass fundraising communications, including mailings, appeals, reports, digital content and other relevant correspondence. This role will be responsible for donors giving at the base level to Water4, as well as communication with monthly donors.50%
Partner with development staff to create relationships and content for all digital platforms including Water4 social media, email campaigns, digital advertising, and collaborations with external partners.30%
Analyze effectiveness of various fundraising methods and messages; adapt future appeals accordingly. Monitor the monthly progress of fundraising results compared to financial goals and identify and elevate relevant donors to appropriate gift officers.10%
Work collaboratively with and in support of board, staff, and volunteers while participating in all aspects of the gift cycle.5%
Ensuring Water4 operates with the highest level of integrity and is in compliance with generally accepted fundraising and development standards and guidelines.5%

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required and 3-5 years fundraising experience preferred
  • Commitment to donor-centered fundraising principles
  • Must be a highly energetic, self-starting professional with a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts
  • Ability to understand and articulate the needs and interests of both donors and Water4 program staff in order to develop sustainable long-term relationships
  • Attention to detail
  • Must work well with others and be highly collaborative across departments
  • Enthusiastic about making the world better for the 2.1 billion people who currently lack access to safe water through a strong commitment to Water4
  • Finds motivation and joy doing meaningful work in a fast-paced environment
  • Successful experience developing donor relationships and cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Willing to travel up to 20%
